LGBT Teen Therapy in Los Angeles
Growing up is hard. Growing up LGBT can be harder.
Having extra support is important for LGBT teens or those questioning their identity. As a child therapist and member of the LGBT community, I can help your child navigate these questions and find answers and confidence for themselves.
The "Double Whammy"
Adolescence is a challenging and exciting time. Children are discovering their autonomy. Bodies and interests are changing. Romantic feelings are experienced for the first time. Hormones are juiced. Emotions are heightened. The brain is wiring and re-wiring, laying groundwork for adult patterns, and still open to influence.
The main task of adolescence, according to psychologist Erik Erikson, is to discover personal identity or risk feeling role confusion. In essence, answering the simple little question, "who am I?" Easier said than done, right?
Add on top of that the question of "am I gay?" or "am I a girl or boy or something else?" You get the "double whammy" of identity confusion. This is a lot to navigate on your own. I can work with your child during this critical time, focusing on finding and supporting their identity.
